Public Speaking Coaching

My Motivational speech.

Public speaking is fun and rewarding. I would never have said that some years ago. During life we all have many ups and downs. For me, learning to cope with fibromyalgia as a child and into adult life was tough as you feel unwell and in pain on a regular basis. Having to deal with a stammer left me feeling isolated, full of shame, guilt and self hate. I tried to cope by avoiding words, sounds and situations on a regular basis to hide my stammer so people might think I was normal. I was also diagnosed with testicular cancer and told of some disturbing probable outcomes and then developed secondary cancer. I feel my positive and upbeat story of dealing with these issues while taking big steps to help gain belief in myself is both inspiring and motivational.  Please contact me for booking details.

My personal thoughts on Public Speaking.

Ahead of heights, death, insects, deep water and flying, public speaking is our number one fear! Now why is that the case? Is it the fear of having to stand in front of large groups of people, with all eyes on you knowing you have to make that all important speech?  Perhaps it’s the fear of forgetting what you want to say and making a complete fool out of yourself?

For me, having a stammer all my life really held me back and public speaking was the last thing on earth I would ever want to do.  The feeling of my chest freezing up and no air coming out over my vocal chords when under pressure to speak filled me with horror.  I used to run away from all public speaking challenges and if I had to face the situation, I would stammer my way through it, saying as little as possible and avoiding many words and sounds.  My body language must have been so passive and I must have looked scared to death.  I made myself feel I would fail and knew I would come across to the audience as nervous and incompetent. I can remember my heart beating really fast, my hands claming up as I was sweating under the pressure while all eyes were staring at me, waiting for me to speak.  I was so worried about their reaction.  I lost all belief and confidence in myself.  Does any of that ring any bells with you?

Those past experiences along with all the public speaking skills that I have learnt and myself having to speak in high pressure situations including being best man and master of ceremonies at weddings has given me the tools and experience to be able to help many others who want to take control and enjoy this speaking situation.
